PayPal Moving On With Stablecoin

Summary PayPal Holdings is entering the stablecoin market, becoming the first major financial institution to do so. The move could potentially benefit the struggling crypto payments space. Other companies, such as Revolut, have recently scaled back or exited the market due to regulatory uncertainties and investor concerns. But, the movement is positive and a part of the way markets expand and grow. This may be just what the crypto payments space needs. PayPal Holdings, Inc. (PYPL) is getting into the stablecoin business . It is the first major financial institution to go so far into this market. PayPal USD. Remember the name. So far, this space has not been prospering. Uncertainty, regulation, and investor concerns have resulted in other companies getting into the market...and then getting out or scaling back. For example, Revolut, a Fintech firm, backed off just last week The company cited "uncertainties around the crypto market in the U.S." Note that PayPal has been trading in the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin (BTC-USD) and Ethereum (ETC-USD), so they have experience in the market. The market is expanding. The market will expand. As the Financial Times reports: "PayPal customers will be able to transfer the stablecoin between their wallets and external wallets, send payments to friends and buy online with the stablecoin. They can also convert PayPal USD into and out of the other digital tokens supported by the payments company, which include bitcoin and ether." In other words, users will be able to get full services from an organization that has an outstanding history and one that has a potent place within the market space. "PayPal has a mainstream app" states Gautam Chhugani, senior analyst of global digital assets at Bernstein. "If PayPal succeeds then every other payment app and consumer financial services brand will want to have their own stablecoins." And, the crypto market grows and spreads and becomes more a part of the world of modern finance.
